The 125th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Constitution of independent India, was celebrated on 14 April 2016 at the Embassy of India, Muscat. A social reformer, a champion of human rights and an emancipator of the downtrodden masses of India, Dr. Ambedkar dedicated his life to awaken the social conscience of modern India.
In his address, Ambassador of India to Sultanate of Oman, H. E. Indra Mani Pandey, underlined the commitment of the Government of India to promote the welfare of the disadvantaged section of Indian society through inclusive development for all. In this context, Ambassador highlighted the initiatives taken by the Embassy to reach out to the disadvantaged segment of Indian community in Oman with a view to address their problems.
Dr. Prabhakar Tijare, a member of Indian School Board, highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s contribution to Indian society. Student speakers from Indian Schools in Muscat spoke on Babasaheb’s life and work, highlighting his outstanding contributions as a scholar, educationist, journalist, administrator, parliamentarian, and jurist. The celebration was attended by prominent members of Indian community in Oman, social workers, academics and media persons.
The 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr Ambedkar was also celebrated in all Indian Schools in Oman with active participation of students. The Ambedkar International Mission in Oman and other related organisations have planned to organize celebrations, including seminars, photo exhibitions etc on the life and works of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Underlining the importance of the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr Ambedkar, the United Nations, for the first time this year, has also celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, with focus on combating inequalities to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
