India and Oman Launch 70th Anniversary Celebrations of Diplomatic Relations
Marking a significant milestone in their longstanding partnership, India and Oman have launched a year-long celebration of 70 years of diplomatic relations. The commemorative events were inaugurated with the unveiling of a specially designed logo by India's External Affairs Minister, H.E Dr. S. Jaishankar, and Oman's Foreign Minister, H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi on 16th February 2025. The unveiled logo symbolizes the deep-rooted historical and cultural connections between the two nations.
2. India and Oman share a history of trade, commerce, and strong people-to-people ties spanning centuries. This relationship was formally institutionalized with the establishment of the first Indian Consulate in Muscat in February 1955. The Indian Consulate was later upgraded to a Consulate General in 1960 and then to an Embassy in 1971. Oman reciprocated by opening its Embassy in New Delhi in 1972 and a Consulate General in Mumbai in 1976, reinforcing the depth and breadth of the bilateral engagement.
3. To commemorate this milestone, a series of events and initiatives will be organized throughout 2025 in both countries. These activities will highlight the strength of the India-Oman partnership and its continued evolution.
4. The logo launch event coincided with H.E Dr. Jaishankar's visit to Muscat to attend the 8th Indian Ocean Conference, where he delivered the keynote address. During his visit, Dr. Jaishankar held bilateral discussions with H.E. Sayyid Badr al Busaidi, discussing ways to expand collaboration in key areas of mutual interest.
5. This 70th anniversary celebration not only reflects on the past achievements of India and Oman but also sets the stage for a future of continued partnership and shared prosperity.
