Grand Celebration of India’s 78th Independence Day

Embassy of India in Muscat celebrated the 78th Independence Day of India with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour on the morning of 15th August 2024. The event witnessed the participation of more than 1000 people, including members of the Indian community, friends of India in Oman, and distinguished guests.

2.       His Excellency Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, commenced the celebrations by paying a floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, a global icon of peace and non-violence. Following this, the Ambassador raised the National Flag of India, accompanied by the singing of the National Anthem.

3.       In his address on the occasion, Ambassador Amit Narang read out excerpts from the speech delivered on the eve of Independence Day by Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu, emphasizing the progress India has made over the past decades and the vision for a prosperous future.

4.       Ambassador acknowledged the presence of some of the victims and the families of those affected by the recent shooting incident in Al Wadi Al Kabir. He expressed his condolences to the family of Shri Basha Jan Ali Hussain who unfortunately lost his life and applauded the courage and fortitude of those who went through unbearable physical and mental trauma in this incident. Ambassador also paid rich tributes to ROP brave heart Youssef Al-Nadabi who made the supreme sacrifice of his life to save others and appreciated the efforts by Omani authorities in dealing with the incident and protecting the lives of innocent civilians. Ambassador said India stands with Oman against all forms of violence.

5.       The students of Indian School Darsait added a soulful touch to the celebration with their rendition of patriotic songs, filling the atmosphere with pride and joy. The event also featured the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, with attendees eagerly taking photographs at the specially designed photo booth that celebrated this nationwide initiative.

6.       A special presentation on the 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' was also displayed, reflecting on the tragic events of the partition and the resilience of the Indian spirit. This presentation, which was inaugurated by the Ambassador on 14th August, highlights the importance of remembering history to build a peaceful future.

7.       Later in the day, Ambassador Amit Narang presided as the Chief Guest at the Independence Day celebration at Indian School Mabela. He joined the dignitaries and the children for the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Environment Day. This initiative will encourage the young generation to contribute to environmental sustainability.

8.       The celebrations of the 78th Independence Day at the Embassy of India, Muscat, were a tribute to India's journey of freedom, unity and progress, inspiring all present to continue working towards a brighter future for the nation.
