India – Oman Business Meet in the Agriculture and Food sectors

The Embassy of India, Muscat, organized an India-Oman Business-to-Business (B2B) Meet at the Sheraton Oman Hotel on 22nd July 2024. The event saw the participation of 27 Indian companies from the agriculture and food sectors, led by Dr. Sudhanshu, Secretary of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). More than 30 Omani companies also participated. The meeting facilitated direct interactions between Indian exporters and Omani importers, focusing on sectors where India excels, such as rice, poultry, and agricultural products.

The event was honored by the presence of Dr. Masoud bin Sulaiman Al Azri, Director General of Agricultural and Fisheries Marketing, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Eng. Hussain Hassan Ali Abdulhusin, Member of the Board of Directors of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Redha Juma Al Saleh, Member of the Board of Directors of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Ms. Lubna Al Harthi, Director of Export Development, Ministry of Commerce and Investment Promotion as Guests of Honor.

His Excellency Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, addressed the gathering, noting that "India's agricultural exports are rapidly expanding, making the country an important contributor to the global food basket and showcasing the tremendous potential to enhance India-Oman trade relations." A comprehensive Market Study Report on the food, agriculture, and marine sectors, highlighting key opportunities and strategies for enhancing trade between India and Oman, was launched by the Ambassador and the esteemed Guests of Honor.

Additionally, the delegation visited the Embassy on July 22 and interacted with Ambassador. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the potential for future collaboration and strengthen existing trade relations between the two countries.

India, recognized as a global leader in agriculture and food production, offers a diverse and extensive range of products. The country's advancements in these sectors are driven by its rich agricultural heritage, innovative practices, and commitment to quality. The visit of the Indian delegation to Oman provided an excellent platform for showcasing India's capabilities and exploring new business opportunities with Omani counterparts.

India and Oman share a long history of robust bilateral economic and trade relations underpinned by shared interests and values. Both nations have consistently strived to enhance their economic partnership, leading to substantial growth in trade volumes and diversification across various sectors. The bilateral trade more than doubled from USD 5.4 million in 2020-21 to USD 12.3 billion in 2022-23, showcasing the strength of economic ties.
