Celebration to commemorate 152 nd Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and UN International Day of Non-Violence
Embassy of India, Muscat in association with Raja Yoga Center for Self-Development, organized an event to celebrate 152nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and United Nations International Day of Non-violence on 2nd October 2021.
2. The event was organized at the Embassy which was graced by H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Ahmed Salem Al Shanfari, Chief of West Asia Department, Foreign Ministry of Sultanate of Oman as Chief Guest. The event was also attended by officials from Government of Oman, Ambassadors, diplomats, media professionals, dignitaries and members of Indian community. The event was also telecast live on the Embassy’s YouTube page.
3. The event started with the traditional lighting of lamp and offering of floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by chief guest H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Ahmed Salem Al Shanfari, H.E. Munu Mahawar and other dignitaries. Sister Gayatri from Raja Yoga Center for Self-Development read a message from United Nation.
4. Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, H.E. Munu Mahawar, spoke about universal relevance of ideas of peace and non-violence promoted by Mahatma Gandhi. Ambassador also paid tributes to Late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, who was conferred Gandhi Peace Prize 2019 in March 2021. A small video on the conferment of Gandhi Peace Prize 2019 on Late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said was played during the event.
5. H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Ahmed Salem Al Shanfari, extended his warm greetings on behalf of Government of Oman and spoke how Gandhi ji’s ideas have inspired several people across the world.
6. The internationally acclaimed motivational speaker, Sister Shivani joined the event live from India and delivered her keynote address on the theme of ‘Spiritual Awakening for World Peace’ and mesmerized the audience. The participation of large number of people virtually attests to the global appeal and popularity of Mahatma Gandhi’s message of Peace, humanity and non-violence.
