Indian Embassy celebrates 71st Republic Day of India
Embassy of India, Muscat, celebrated the 71st Republic Day of India on 26 January 2020. The event started with everyone present observing one minute silence in remembrance of late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. Shri Munu Mahawar, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, unfurled the Indian Flag, at the premises of the Embassy, in the presence of over 300 members of the Indian Community in Oman.
The unfurling of flag was followed by singing of National Anthem. Ambassador gave a brief speech and read out excepts from the address of the President of India to the Nation. Ambassador paid rich tributes to late HM Sultan Qaboos for his seminal role in regional peace and stability. He stated that late HM Sultan Qaboos was a true friend of India and chief architect of India-Oman strategic partnership.
Ambassador also spoke about the importance of Republic Day and growth and development in India after India’s constitution came into effect. He mentioned about yearlong celebration titled as “Constitution Day and campaign on Citizen’s Duties” to commemorate the 70 years of adoption of India’s constitution and requested active participation of Indian community in it.
Ambassador greeted the Indian Community in Oman and thanked them for their outstanding contributions in strengthening India’s friendly relations with Oman. He also expressed his appreciation for the support extended by the Indian community to the Embassy, including volunteers and social workers. He also reiterated the commitment of the Embassy to do its best in delivery of consular and community welfare services to the Indian community in Oman.
Students of Indian School Darsait (ISD) sang the National anthem adding to the sense of pride and patriotism in the celebrations. In the end, Ambassador interacted with the members of Indian community individually and thanked them for joining the celebration.
